About Fontana Forni
Over 70 years of history - Fontana was founded in 1946. At that time, Italy was in a new phase, full of challenges and opportunities. The talent, will and passion of the people at that time guaranteed extraordinary experiences. Made in ITALY: More than one company - a whole family - has grown with the work. Proof of creativity and Italian tradition. Part of our method is respect for our surroundings, fueled by our passion for the work. Choosing Fontana means choosing reliability, sophistication, passion and efficiency. Fontana is now the market leader in the wood stove industry. A manufacturer characterized by 100% Made in Italy, drawing on the experience and professionalism of more than 70 years of activity. With innovative models such as the Piero, several design awards for models such as the Maestro and high-performance stoves such as the Margherita, Fontana Forni combines elegant looks with strong inner values and innovative ideas.
The Oven
Fontana Forni's Maestro 60 is the bigger brother of the Maestro 40 (to the Maestro 40 oven) and is a gas-fired pizza oven. With its usable baking area of 60x40 cm, it has a truly impressive appearance and has won the Red Dot Design Award 22 for product design for good reason. The baking surface is relatively similar to that of a domestic oven, so you can expect good control and a large cooking space that you can close with a door.
The oven is made in Italy and comes with a 9 kW burner, which is mounted at the back of the oven and ignited by an electric piezo igniter. A heat shield is fitted above the burner to direct the broad flame forward through the cooking space to the chimney.
This creates a kind of rolling flame or rolling heat that is ideal for baking pizza in different ways. From Neapolitan pizza at around 500 degrees to Roman pizza at 360 degrees or pizza on a griddle. You can also bake lasagna and other delicacies in this large cooking space, as the oven can be easily controlled using a high quality rotary dial.
The oven is also equipped with a practical thermometer that gives you a good idea of the internal temperature. For more precise measurements, however, we recommend a laser thermometer from our accessories. The workmanship is of a high standard, you will not find any sharp edges that could hurt you.
The price of 2799 BGN is more than fair for the quality and performance offered.
Here you can get an idea of how to light the oven:
The Heat
Thanks to the chimney system in front of the oven, it doesn't get too hot and you can work well without sweating while baking :)
The chimney directs the heat upwards very efficiently. The outer surface of the oven gets hot, but this is acceptable given the very high temperatures inside.
The overall insulation is very good and the oven maintains the temperature efficiently, which is particularly noticeable when switched off after baking as the temperature inside slowly drops - a sign of quality as heat is not lost immediately. This is matched by the efficiency of the gas consumption - with 509 g/h at full power, the Maestro 60 is very efficient and economical, while generating plenty of heat, for example for a real Neapolitan pizza.
Performance
I, Bernie from "just1morepizza", tested the oven extensively for Furnite. bg in different conditions, it even kept a pizza party with 30 guests completely trouble-free, remained very consistent in its performance, and thanks to the chamotte bricks inside it allows the pizzas to bake quickly one after the other, as these bricks, compared to cheaper cordierite bricks, have significantly better heat management and need almost no heating or cooling phases once the Maestro 60 reaches temperature.
You can see what delicious pizza comes out of this oven here:
Summary
Yes, weighing 55kg the oven is not an oven you can just take with you, so the Maestro 40 or another, smaller oven from our store would be a better choice. But if you want a high-efficiency oven with a large cooking chamber to place on your terrace or in your garden and appreciate the benefits of gas combustion, the Maestro 60 is an absolute recommendation and gets Furnite. bg's seal of approval.
